UF Department of Psychiatry
University of Florida

The University of Florida College of Medicine is offering online electives to undergraduate pre-health students through the Department of Psychiatry.

If you are considering a career in Psychiatry, you could not have chosen a better time. The U.S. Bureau of Health Professions projects that between 1995 and 2020 demand for psychiatrists will increase by 100% for child and adolescent psychiatrists and by 19% for generalists.

The prospects for finding a good job in this field are excellent for the foreseeable future. There is still a great need for psychiatrists in all aspects of the public, as well as in the private care sector. Psychiatry was designated as a shortage specialty and a priority specialty in a recent report by the Graduate Medical Education National Advisory Committee. Specialists such as child psychiatrists and geriatric psychiatrists are in even greater demand.
