The University of Florida College of Medicine is offering online electives to undergraduate pre-health students
Becoming a Physician, Dentist, Pharmacist, Nurse or other health care specialist is a very good choice! We have an aging population, a new president who has emphasized health and wellness, and a shortage of trained professionals. Physician shortages are clearly evident in Florida and have led to the first new medical schools in decades being approved and opening. Finding your niche, finding which profession is best suited for your interests and aptitude is the trick. These courses prepare you to learn about the available options and help you become a better prepared applicant. Introduction to the Professions of Medicine and Shadowing have been among the most popular courses on campus because they work to prepare you to make one of the most important decisions of your life.
As the largest industry in the United States, health care provided 14 million jobs. The majority of jobs—about 295,000 out of the 438,000 total are self-employed. Healthcare will generate 3 million new wage and salary jobs between 2006 and 2016, more than any other industry. Seven of the twenty fastest growing occupations are health care related. Job opportunities should be good in all employment settings. Job satisfaction is high when you like what you are doing and when you can help others. Wage and salary employment in the health care industry is projected to increase 22 percent through 2016, compared with 11 percent for all industries combined.
These undergraduate pre-health courses are available to ALL college students who are pursuing a career in Medicine, and are not limited to only University of Florida students. Non-UF students can register during Summer C.
See Registration FAQs for information on how to register for any of these classes.
